Training

overview

PHHW is a group psychotherapy practice and training organization specializing in psychodynamic therapy and evidence-based treatments for adolescents and adults. Our team of clinicians has extensive experience treating anxiety, mood, trauma-related, and personality concerns across the lifespan.

Our program is designed to prepare exceptionally qualified and motivated early career psychologists to refine their clinical skills and enhance their confidence as clinicians. We seek to provide a diverse, inclusive atmosphere that encourages creativity and promotes open dialogue among our clinicians and trainees. Our practice is dedicated to providing top-quality treatment to our community, and in addition to private pay clients, we are pleased to accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna and Baylor Scott & White insurance plans.

Our training program incorporates didactic seminars (both virtual and in-person), case conferences, group supervision and one-on-one supervision with mentors well-versed in relational/attachment-based, CBT and psychodynamic therapy modalities. A cornerstone of the training program is quality supervision and consultation. We believe supervision and consultation should be developmental, accessible, and collegial. Trainees will receive weekly individual and group supervision with various providers based on focus area and specialty. Clinicians involved in the program have extensive supervision experience, diverse theoretical perspectives, and rich experience working as part of interdisciplinary teams.

We aim to expose trainees to forward-thinking skills needed for today’s healthcare environment. This includes refining your clinical skills, practicing with a large caseload of patients, and working on setting career goals and creating a plan to meet them. We pride ourselves on creating a program that is committed to furthering your clinical and professional-personal aspirations.

Our office environment is warm, friendly, and supportive, and encourages work/life balance. We value diversity and strive to create an equitable, inclusive, and affirming learning environment. We provide equal opportunity to all prospective trainees and staff, and do not discriminate due to a person’s age, disability, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, language, national origin, race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, social economic status, or other factors that are not predictive of or related to success as a trainee.

program training goals and objectives

The main components of the Program are to:

  1. Provide training in psychoanalytic/psychodynamic and individual relational psychotherapy. These approaches comprise the primary theoretical foundation of our program; however, we also strive to help trainees incorporate other modalities, including (but not limited to):
    1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
    2. Mindfulness
    3. Attachment Theory
    4. Existentialism
  2. Provide professional development scaffolding to prepare trainees for the business side of running a private practice, including topics such as marketing, billing and caseload management
  3. Provide the necessary clinical experiences and required supervision to meet educational goals and to apply for a license to practice as a psychologist.
